Make a Meaningful Difference

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting Cunningham’s mission to see every child thrive. Whether you are volunteering as an individual, a group, or through your workplace, your time and talents help create a safe, supportive environment where youth can heal, grow, and succeed.

We are deeply grateful for every volunteer who helps strengthen our community and support our staff and the youth we serve.

*Because Cunningham serves youth in care, any volunteer who works directly with clients or youth is required to complete a DCFS background check and fingerprinting process. This ensures the safety and well-being of the young people in our programs. We will guide you through this process and answer any questions along the way.

Group Volunteering

Opportunities may include:

  • Donation sorting and organizing projects
  • Campus beautification and seasonal decorating
  • Service days, special projects, or skill-based workshops
  • Event support (setup, registration, guest greeting, and cleanup)

We welcome volunteer groups from businesses, faith communities, schools, and community organizations. Group projects are a great way to build team connection while supporting Cunningham’s mission.

We often have opportunities that require a number of volunteers and would welcome help from your group, business or organization. Groups have wrapped Christmas presents, done campus clean-up, washed agency cars, organized storage areas and the Hope Chest and more.  If your group has a unique idea or skill set, we would love to explore how it could support youth and staff.

Individual Volunteering

Opportunities may include:

  • Event volunteering
  • Administrative or project-based support
  • Skill-based activities (art, music, STEM, reading, workshops, etc.)
  • Direct youth engagement (after completing DCFS background check, fingerprinting, and orientation)

Individual volunteers can serve in many ways based on their interests, availability, and comfort level. We’ll help you find an opportunity that’s a great fit for both your passions and your schedule.

Helpful ways to volunteer without direct contact with youth

Opportunities may include:

  • Assisting with fundraising events and community celebrations
  • Decorating campus spaces for holidays and special occasions
  • Sorting and organizing donations in the Hope Chest
  • Preparing care packages and activity supplies
  • Helping with campus projects, clean-up days, or special initiatives
  • Supporting administrative or behind-the-scenes projects

These activities do not require a background check or fingerprinting. Every role—large or small—contributes to the care and experiences of the youth we serve.
